L’opera, che sa trar frutto anche da un viaggio a Roma nel 1574, è uno degli apici della piena maturità di Barocci, con la visione forse più poetica del Golgota con le croci e sullo sfondo Palazzo Ducale. Cartoncino e bozzetto qui presenti sono fasi e memorie di un lungo e complesso processo ideativo.

The work, which also draws on a trip to Rome in 1574, is one of the high points of Barocci’s full maturity, with perhaps the most poetic vision of Golgotha with crosses and the Ducal Palace in the background. The cardboard and sketch presented here are phases and memories of a long and complex process of ideation.
